Today is the autumnal equinox. It marks the day when the center of the sun will pass directly over the Equator. Those direct ray will continue to move south reaching the Tropic of Capricorn, 23.5° south latitude on the winter solstice on December 21. Both the autumnal equinox we are experiencing today and the vernal (or spring) equinox in March tend to be days where some think there are magical gravitational powers because you can balance eggs on their end on these dates and I’m sure many will try it today as well. Yet, the reality is, this trick can be accomplished on any day of the year with just as much ease or difficulty as it will today. The same thing can be said with those who think brooms can only stand by themselves these two days of the year. Sorry.
