The National Center for Environmental Information, which use to be called the National Climate Data Center ranked February 2019 as the second coldest on record in North Dakota. Their records go back to 1891, so that ranking does not include the 1880s when we did have some colder Februaries. The only February that was colder since 1891 in North Dakota as a whole was 1936 and last month was nowhere near as cold as the February that year. In Fargo, last month was the 11th coldest, so statewide statistics do not necessarily mean all locations were as statistically as cold as other parts of the state. Needless to say last month was historically cold.
