Many locations have recorded the first flakes of the season and yes, a few unlucky folks have even seen a brief dusting of snow. Although we probably don’t like to admit it, none of these first snow events of the season are not unusual in the slightest. As many of us will remember the northern plains have recorded some recent October snow storms, most notably the devastating blizzard in early October 2013. This week is also the anniversary of the famed October blizzard that was mentioned in Laura Ingalls Wilder’s book “The Long Winter”. That blizzard started on October 15, 1880. Yet, most years are first accumulating snow occurs in early November. I hope I didn’t just jinx us.
