The grain harvest is underway and the sugar beet pre-pile will begin next week. Full harvest mode may be still a couple of months away, but with these two activities taking place, the thoughts of harvest are now on most people’s minds. If I had to pick one crop that has the most potential to be impacted by the weather the most in the next several weeks, it may be soybeans. Although July furnished plenty of rain, (and the wet areas got even wetter on Wednesday Night), but there are still certainly many dry areas out there and in the past decade or so, dry August weather has generally been the rule rather than the exception. Meaning, if that trend continues and at the moment I would lean in that direction, the soybeans in particular could experience yield loss if we don’t get a couple more good rains.
