No Cold Tie

You may remember during our cold snap a few weeks back that there was a report of a -59.6-degree low temperature at the Lake Metigoshe cooperative weather station.  In this segment I had mentioned that it was an instrumentation error as that was far colder than any other report.  Today, the National Weather Service in Bismarck confirmed that it was indeed an instrumentation error and that reading was invalidated.  The state record of -60 degrees was set on February 15, 1936 near Parshall meaning the bad report at Lake Metigoshe would have tied the state record.  Instead of a tying the state cold record the folks at Lake Metigoshe will be getting a new thermometer instead.
