Although we are still three weeks from the winter solstice our sunset times are now pretty much at the earliest they are going to reach. Most locations will only lose one or maybe two more minutes before the sunsets begin to increase. In fact, sunsets start to increase before the winter solstice. Yes, the total day length will be shortest of the year on the solstice, but sunsets do start to increase several days before we reach that point in the orbit. Sunrise times on the other hand will continue to get later until about the first of the year. We still have approximately 15 more minutes to lose in the morning, but at least sunset times have bottomed out.
