What is happening in the southern plains, especially Texas, has been getting a lot of attention, as it should. It is cold and snow that region rarely experiences, but the key word there was rarely, it is not unprecedented. Depending on the exact area, similar weather was experienced 1989, 1983 and especially back in 1899. Weather memories tend to be incredibly short; many locally don’t remember our cold snap back in February 2019, just two years ago. It was as bad or worse than this outbreak, plus that one came with a lot of snow. My point is something that rarely happens is part of the long-term climate, it may be rare, but it has happened and will likely happen again.
