The End of Summer

One week from today is the first day of September, which is climatologically the first day of Autumn.  Any forecast you may have heard early in the year about what the summer of 2016 was projected to be like, was based on the three warmest months of the year, June, July and August and not based on the days from the Summer Solstice through the Autumnal Equinox, a period sometimes is view as summer.  This season will finish very close to average for temperatures with the exception of part of southwestern North Dakota.  Rainfall wise, more locations in the region will end up with below average rain than above which may surprise some because most of those above average rainfall areas will be finishing way above normal.
