This cold snap, albeit annoying for most people, isn’t all that unusual for our climate. We would have to go two full weeks of double digits below zero lows for example just to get into the 10 ten longest such streak on record. We would have to go 37 straight days of 0 or below to break the record for longest streak of getting above 0. There are also other such stats I could mention. But one place that is getting a historical cold snap is down in Texas. It may get as cold as it has been in decades in some parts of that state. It isn’t out of the realm of possibility that all-time record lows may be set in the coming days, but again for North Dakotans and Minnesota, it’s just winter.
