The cold air that is currently in place will not have the holding power of the last cold snap. Although bitterly cold for the next several days, this arctic air mass will be moving out toward the middle of next week. Meaning, by the end of next week we should be in a period of several days with more moderate temperatures and some of those days even being above average. Of course the cold will come back, it is winter on the northern plains, but we at least won’t be in the deep freeze for two straight weeks this time. Precipitation wise, no big snows are foreseen in the next week, but a couple of weaker disturbances certainly look likely.
