The Last 70° Day

During the next couple of days, certainly not everyone, but some locations may record a high of 70°.   Best opportunity may be on Wednesday as a cold front will work across North Dakota on Thursday.  That front will probably already be well into Minnesota during the peak heating of the day on Thursday, meaning that although the Red River Valley may still come close to 70° before the cool air arrives, Wednesday will likely be the best opportunity to record a high of 70° in many locations.

The first 70° day of the year, usually occurs in April, with the statewide average in the middle of April.  The last 70°, because you never know for sure it was the last 70° of the season until a few weeks later, tends to pass with less publicity, but the statewide average last 70° high of the year tends to be in the middle of October.  The warmer temperatures in the next couple of days may be the last opportunity to achieve a high to that point or higher in 2014, although, never say never.  Below is the average first and last 70° reading for the selected cities in North Dakota.
