Meteorological winter is from December 1 through February 28, or February 29 during leap years. Most of North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota the average temperature so far this winter is running above normal. In the Red River Valley, just a degree or two and in western North Dakota by 3 to 5 degrees. Ten days from now, most of the Red River Valley will be at or even a bit below average, but western North Dakota still running a bit above average. If you recall, my forecast for this winter was for near average temperatures as the second half of winter would offset a mild start. At our current pace a colder than average winter may be in the cards.
